AI is going to change so many things in the world. That’s clear. But when it comes to real estate, one big question remains: Is AI going to replace real estate agents?

But the answer became clear in a simple, everyday moment. Standing in line at a Walmart self-checkout, people were struggling to scan their vegetables. That’s when it became obvious, real estate agents are going to be okay. Even if the technology exists, there will always be enough people who just aren’t going to adopt it.

Here’s why I think AI can transform real estate without replacing the people in it.

AI is an invaluable tool for real estate agents. It helps with research, answering questions, and doing analysis. Think of it as a prepaid assistant, always available to support daily work and decision-making.

“AI can assist, but human interaction is still the heart of real estate.”

There are plenty of tools to choose from: Grok, ChatGPT, and Claw, among others. Grok is a favorite, used constantly for quick information and insight. Anyone not using AI yet should try an app and start exploring; the tools available today already help make smarter, faster decisions.

AI isn’t likely to replace real estate agents anytime soon. There are simply too many moving parts. Real estate still involves negotiation, multiple steps, and extensive documentation. These processes are complex and require human interaction and judgment.

That said, AI might replace “really, really bad order taker” agents, those who contribute little beyond basic tasks. But for agents who actively manage negotiations, paperwork, and client relationships, AI works best as a support system, not a substitute.

Most people aren’t using AI yet. Despite all the powerful tools available, many people still don’t use AI. It’s surprising how accessible it is, yet the gap between technology and real-world use remains wide.

AI is an assistant, not a replacement. It’s a powerful tool for research, analysis, and smarter decisions, but real estate still depends on people and personal interaction.
